As a veteran of both the military and van ownership I was already aware that plenty of van dwellers are former military members. Still, I was a little surprised to see The Military Times do a piece on those who choose a nomadic lifestyle; after all, they are not the “Post-Military Times.” They managed– via author Jon Anderson— a simple article without an editorial bend, instead choosing to simply showcase several vets and military spouses who are living a life on wheels.
I’m a huge fan of the concept of course. Just because I travel by motorcycle doesn’t mean I don’t see the benefits of a box-on-wheels. Mainly, you can carry your stuff without destroying the handling of your vehicle and it all stays dry and doesn’t fly off in the wind… not to mention you don’t have to pack a tent. My own van is only used for weekends at the race track so it isn’t fully outfitted, but it often times gives me the itch to just keep going… to deck it out fully and take to the road for good. Now if only it didn’t get 13mpg…
So enough outta me; have a gander at these vans and listen to the interesting stories of how these particular people pull off the #vanlife.
Thank you for being a Veteran and sharing your life with a van.
